Extend Desktop without software

Is there a way to extend my PC desktop to an iPad WITHOUT installing software on the PC? It's my work laptop and I don't have admin rights to install anything. Perhaps through a wired connection? I don't have an iPad yet, but I would buy one if I can use it as a second monitor.

Do you mean a true extension, ie. additional monitor, or just mirror the existing one? If the latter, you could use Remote Desktop.

The iPad's connector does not have any video-in pins. That only leaves wi-fi, which will require installing something on the computer.

extending will require software.

You can remotely view your desktop from the iPad without installing software but thats totally different than extending.
