Hi and welcome to the Forum!

With regards to your question when an app behaves strangely it is best to close it completely and then relaunch it. From the home screen do the four finger swipe up or double press the home button to reveal your multi task bar along the bottom. It will show all the apps that you have opened at one time or another. Long press the app until it jiggles and a red minus sign will appear above it. Press the minus sign, this will close the app, not delete it. It's also a good idea to close all these apps, as it helps the iPad run smoothly, I do mine every night. Check and see if it is operating now, and let us know.

Just started using my new iPad yesterday and all day I was switching apps by going "home" and hitting app icon each time. I kept thinking there should be a way to more quickly switch! Thank you so much! Does this work with the iPhone as well?

Yes it does work on the iPhone by double pressing the home button. Are you on IOS5 have a look Settings - General - About and look for version. With IOS5 came many new features, you can also switch between apps by swiping 4 fingers across the page and it will take you to your last used app and you can just keep swiping through them all. Here's 2 threads with lots of tips and shortcuts

Let us know what version you're on and if you're not on IOS5 we can show you how to upgrade if you would like, it's also free just in case you're wondering.
