Just got iPad for Christmas, took along on trip and eMail is stuck.
Try bringing up the multitasking bar and then holding the email app till the red minus appears and then press. Then try reloading the mail app. If that doesn't work try restarting your iPad and if that fails you can do a soft reset by holding the lock screen button and the home button until the iPad turns off.
