Digital AV adaptor

Hi everyone, I'm new to this and I've seen some people are having problems with a new av adaptor, the tv recognises it fine and the iPad is mirrored on the tv but the picture is full of interference and the sound while watching films stored on the iPad or off Netflix is jumpy. Any ideas? Is the adaptor faulty?

Which adapter is it? Composite, component, VGA, or HDMI?
