Confide app comes up with way to prevent screenshots.JPG

AppleInsider reports that secure messaging app Confide has designed a way to stop messages that appear in its iOS app being saved as screenshots.

Confide is apparently a popular app with journalists and politicians due to its privacy features, including end-to-end encryption and deleting messages and files. However, the fact that it is possible to take screenshots of messages in the app meant that it was not totally water-tight in terms of privacy, and that people could have records of private messages even if they were deleted.

Now, however, Confide has announced on its blog that it has solved that problem by launching its new ScreenShield technology, where when you take a screenshot of a message in Confide, you will only see a blank screen in the actual screenshot. Apparently, ScreenShield works not only with the iOS 11 screen-recording feature, but also with other screenshotting methods, including AirPlay screen mirroring, QuickTime screen recording, and taking screenshots from the app switcher or via Xcode.

ScreenShield is available now via the updated version of Confide, which has just arrived in the App Store.

Confide also revealed that it will be allowing other third-party developers to use the ScreenShieldKit in order to prevent the taking of screenshots in their own apps, so this announcement could have far and wide implications.
