AppleInsider writes that according to internal rumours, as reported on by the New York Observer, News Corporation has put its flagship table publication, The Daily “on watch†as a result of the company’s cost-cutting measures. AppleInsider reports that this probationary period will last until after the US elections on November 6, when News Corp will reassess The Daily’ status. AppleInsider writes that The Daily has been reported as losing $30 billion per year. Overall, this wouldn’t be much of a surprise, as The Daily hasn’t really lived up to projections, certainly sales-wise, at least. However, should The Daily close, it will be a disappointing end to News Corp’s first venture into iPad publishing (the app was originally launched for iPad only), especially with Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, launching the app with much fanfare alongside News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch at the beginning of 2011.
