How do you clear open tabs?

All you do is to press one of the ap
Location icons like you would do to remove an application from your iPad. Then hit the small "x". This would delete the open application but not off the iPad.
I wish there was a way to delete all open applications at once.

Two things. One, you have to be in the multitask bar (double tap the Home button, or swipe up with four fingers), and second (after you have long pressed an icon until it starts to jiggle) you will see a small minus sign, not an x. x means you're about to delete something from the iPad. - (minus) means you're just closing the app.
You are correct I did leave the multitasking off. Thank you for catching that or me.
