Ok, that pretty well sums it up. Wife suggested due to lots media about apps supporting the autistic.

I found 15 possibilities on my HP touchpad, but only one barely interested him. Now after two months, I found over 100 to start and maybe six to interest him and may even help him to learn speaking. Maybe he might start before he's eight.

One app, band of day, gets his interest when heavy rock is on. It says playing even when the ipad shuts dark. Another app, sing it! Stops playing when dark. Is there a way change it to keep playing songs ?

Sometimes you can get an app to continue playing in the background if you close it, double tap on the home button to get the multitask bar, swipe right for the play controls, then tap the play icon. This usually works if that app's icon has replaced the normal Music icon at the right. If it does not, then the app probably does not support playing in the background.

Apps that work this way can also (usually) be controlled from the from the lock screen's play controls; if they were the last music app opened. When the screen is locked (dark or not) double tap the home button. Play controls will appear at the top of the screen.
