Can't display ipad (3rd gen) on new TV??

I have one of the "fireplace" apps on my 3rd gen ipad. I purchased one of the 3-way cables that has the USB, HDMI, and apple plugs. Worked great on my Vizio TV. Vizio died and we got a new Hitachi Ultravision. Hooked up everything the same but it doesn't work. I've tried two different HDMI ports but get "no signal" on tv screen. When I first hooked it up, I got a message about " this device not supported by this ipad".

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
