Cannot get rid of "Connect to iTunes"....not working (more)

Tried to sync up m iPad last night and it said there was an update available, so I started the download. After about 30 minutes it said there was an error and that MS recommended not going any further, so I quit and unplugged. "Connect to iTunes" has been on the screen ever since, even when I try to charge. When I connect to iTunes, it will not recognize. Any options? Thanks!

You might want to call 1-800-MYAPPLE and get help with the problem.
