Can not turn of iPad..

the on/off button does not work so I can not reset?

Not that I've ever heard of. Sounds like an Apple Support call to me. It is most likely a hardware failure.

Are you holding down the sleep button for more than two seconds?

After doing so, your iPad will show a red "Slide to turn off" at the top of your screen.

If your button is indeed broken, I would recommend a call to apple support or a trip an apple store near you.

If you think the problem is software related and not hardware, just use the device until it runs out of power. Then charge it again... the same result as a power off reset.
