The following message is being posted on the Roots genealogy forums:-

Launching in Autumn 2011, the British Newspaper Archive will make millions
of pages of historical newspapers available online for the first time ?
Read more about this at www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk.
If you wish, you can register to be kept informed of when the newspapers go
online.

Some digitised papers have been available on line for a long while. In case you don't know, The newspaper reading rooms and archive at Colindale will be closed down. Another cost cutting exercise which is a tragedy. The Newspaper Library is worth visiting.

Just curious is this app only available through the British ITunes store if so I can create an App sub section in the UK forum . I am considering doing this so that UK users can post specific apps in that location. comments please... Thanks

Col, I think it's available worldwide. Folks in Asia have been downloading the application, and I believe that the Staff at BL intend the 19thC books application to be used worldwide.

There is an Internet archive of free books and other forms of media. Follow this link http://www.archive.org/

It's a pretty cool resource, but I don't know whether there is an iApp available

Can't Wait to Try The British Library 19th Century Collection

This app looks wonderful. Too bad my iPad is out on loan (yep, I'm a good friend, and yep, I miss it), or I'd try it out immediately!
