Right, this should take a bit longer.......

Three cars had driven into a parking lot at the same time, and the three drivers left them all for the attendant to park. Unfortunately, he isn't too good at remembering exactly which driver drove which car. However, he is sure of these 6 facts: a. Colin drove the BMW if and only if Mr. Cooper drove the Avenger. b. Alan drove the Cortina if and only if Mr. Cooper drove the BMW. c. Colin is Mr. Brown if and only if Mr. Andrews drove the BMW. d. Brian is Mr. Andrews if and only if Colin drove the BMW. e. Mr. Cooper drove the Avenger if and only if Alan is Mr. Brown. f. Colin is Mr. Brown if and only if Alan drove the Cortina. Who arrived with which car?

Another good guess :). And here is what that student wrote down:
"This."

Reasoning:
By doing this, the student demonstrated that he/she understood that having your grade based on one exam is risky.
Plus, putting just one word on such an important exam and hoping the professor understands what he means is risky in itself.

Ah, a good one which I would never have guessed either. :)

Here's a UK themed one.

No plan like yours to study history wisely.

Q What does this relate to?

Q What is the interpretation of the sentence?

I haven't seen any answers to this one. Now NO googling, please. I am sure I can trust you. :(

This one relates to Scotland. I am afraid I don't remember the answer - well it's 45 years or so since I heard it!

A long climb for me. That's the mnemonic.

Again,any guesses?
The mnemonic was devised by my geography teacher, Mr Pass.
I have 2 alternative possible answers. I'm sure our Scottish contingent can help. ;)

Brilliant idea for a thread Richard,
Although I'm hopeless, don't even know where to begin with yours I'm afraid!

Thanks Leelai. Its caught on pretty well. I was thinking of posting my Washing up teasers on the anything goes thread which didn't sit quite right. So, thinking things through resulted in this thread.

Original posers and observations should beat Google ;).

I have another cooking related poser which I'm putting together and will post later on.

More kitchen physics.

Our toaster has snug fitting rubberised cool grips to the handles of the lift out basket. See photo: -

Whenever we use the toaster, the grips slide partially off the handles. I am sure to push the grips firmly home, whenever they try to work off the handles, but the movement reoccurs. One day I watched the toaster through a toasting cycle, and saw the grips moving on their own!

Weird!

I would love to know why this happens. Any ideas? I have an idea of sorts but would love some ideas.

Cheers.

I prefer science and logic to all the other stuff so I'll post my two pence. It's probably because the metal inside the rubber heats up. This causes both the metal and rubber to expand, but due to the nature of rubber it will expand more. This expansion is probably what's causing the handle to move along. Was that what you were thinking?
