    Hi everyone,

I have an interesting wee problem to share and hopefully to attract words of wisdom. I have enjoyed iplayer on my ipad for some time but then it all went pear shaped. The app wont work at all but via Google a prog starts, runs for a while then stops. It works fine on the macbook and imac. The wifi is a Time Capsule plus airport express. All the normal things have been done. Everything else streams normally and what's more its a brand new ipad 1. Iv'e checked it on another wifi system and the Google link worked fine.

Has anyone got any ideas please?

Have you tried deleting the app and then reinstalling it?

The easiest first way to try to solve ‘unexplained’ or ‘unusual’ problems with the iPad are:-

Force the offending app to close. If you have iOS 4.2 or 4.3 double-press the ‘Home’ button to bring up the multi-task bar at the bottom of the screen. Press *and hold* any icon until they start to ‘jiggle’. Then tap the top left-hand corner of the app that you want to close. It will ‘disappear’ from the list. Don’t panic - you’ve not deleted it, just closed it. Now tap the Home screen and the multi-task bar will disappear. Re-open the iPad’s app and see if the problem has resolved itself. If not, it’s on to possible solution number two!!
Restart the iPad. Press *and hold* the Power button. After a couple of seconds a slider control will appear asking you to confirm that you really want to switch the iPad off (this is all you’ll be doing). Slide the control to accept. A rotating white ‘bezel’ will appear in the iPad screen as the iPad powers down (it takes a few seconds, just like it would if you were shutting down your PC). When the screen of the iPad has gone completely blank, press *and hold* the Power button for a couple of seconds until the white Apple logo appears and the iPad starts to power up. This takes several seconds, so be patient. During the power up the automatic screen orientation function is disabled, so don’t panic. A few seconds before the power up is complete, the iPad plays a little ‘jingle’ and then you’re back to the Home screen. Restart the iPad’s app and see if the problem persists. Apple (and Forum members) recommend that you power down your iPad at least once a week, just as you might regularly completely switch off your PC. The normal procedure of just briefly pressing the Power button of the iPad merely puts it to ‘sleep’. Most Forum members have found that one of the two methods I’ve mentioned here cure a whole bunch of unexplained problems and are an easy first step to resolving most anything that happens on the iPad.

Thank you Ruthie. Thank you Tim.

Where to begin, my word. I've done all those suggestions plus I've erased everything and treated it as a new ipad and still the service is unavailable. The techie from Virgin came yesterday on a non related matter and after I'd explained to him he said "It's not my problem but even I feel annoyed" He suggested Catch up TV and that works fine. Everything works fine on the wifi network. I can google the iplayer on another network and Apple, God bless them have already exchanged my original ipad over this issue. I must have offended some digital overlord.

    Help!

If any of you have any constructive thoughts on this issue I would be so thankful.

Ok from troubleshooting point of view answer the following error messages

1> have you tried accessing BBC iplayer from a different wifi network ? Just to eliminate that it's not the network blocking your access ?

2> have you tried clearing the cache of your iPad from settings ?

3> have you tried film on ? (if you know about it ) (if not then ask)

4> are you getting an error message when you try to play the i player or does it just crashes ?

5> does channel 4 app. 4od does that work ?

Sorry for all these questions but I think answer to these questions will help narrow down the problem

(I just signed up to this forum just to help u as I was reading the post and I thought why not oats take this as challenge )

Thank you Getharoon and everybody trying to solve this wee, wee, problem.

The current position is as follows.

The ipad will get bbc iplayer on a network the other side of the road.

I have cleared the cache, cookies and history. I now get a message at the top of the screen which reads "Debug Console NO ERRORS".

BBC iplayer can be received on this wifi network on our imac and macbook.

4 on demand works well on the ipad.

We do not get an error message; it just wont stream.

iplayer worked well until last week on our wifi network.

The only item I didn't understand Getharoon on your list was :"on film".

I think this conundrum would even interest the trail blaze teckies of the 50's and 60's.

    Help and assistance most appreciated.
