Bbc iplayer, the ipad via the hmdi cable to the tv

I connected my iPad to the tv via apple's hdmi connector and an hdmi cable so I could watch a
Program on iplayer, everything else works ie bbc news etc but it will not work with iplayer it will not play via the tv screen is their a reason for this or have I done something wrong? Also can I download a program to watch At later date to my iPad ie record it?

The app has to support tv out. If it doesn't, the only way would be to mirror, but would give you awful quality. And mirroring is only available on iPad 2. But if you jailbreak, you can do it on iPad 1.
