Yesterday, I experienced my ipad battery was flat. I am quite sure I would have noticed if it had been at 10% when I last used it, besides which, I'm sure there is a warning. However I put it on charge and when 100% was reached, disconnected and used the ipad for no more than 30 mins surfing and a less than 10 minute skype.

I don't power off, and rarely ever have done, I just let it sleep.

Today I notice that it is 26%. Just in case any recently introduced saved webpages are the cause, I have removed them and have put the ipad on charge, which I wouldn't normally do until much lower. When it is fully charged, I will not use it, but leave it in sleep mode. Presumably that will tell me if there is anything running in the background that is causing the running down quicker than usual.

If you have anything you would like to suggest, I'd be more than happy to listen and try, because if this is the beginning of the end, then I will consider replacing the tablet and not necessarily with another ipad. I don't feel inclined to pay out for another battery for example when the thing itself is only or less than two years old.

If you go to Settings>Battery, you'll be able to see if any apps running in the background were using an inordinate amount of battery power.

    Yes I will.

    PS,
do you think a soft re-set, ie pressing Home & Power buttons for 10 secs will help?
do you think turning off "Background apps refresh" will help?
do you think turning off "locations services" will help?

all things at the back of my mind.

Do you have a Smart Cover on the iPad ? Make sure it's closing properly and not triggering the sleep wake function on your iPad.

No just an ordinary cover thanks, but..........

Has the iPhone's latest update broken your device?

this is causing me concern now.

A hard reset may help. Going through those Apps using Location Services and switching Location Services off for those that don't need it or not necessarily all the time might help. Shuttng down Apps running in the background won't help, but switching off Background Refresh will.

    Also check your brightness setting.

Agreed. Running the screen at full brightness will greatly decrease battery life.
