Interesting to see this day's posts, Richard.
I'll be there with my daughter in August, in a hotel near Tower Bridge. Good to see what's possible there.

There is a reasonably priced place to eat near the Dickens Inn in St Katherine's Dock. It's situated in the brick warehouse by the Medieval Banqueting hall.

Then, do visit the Design Museum. Which is in Shad Thames close to the Eco houseboats. They have good taste at the DM.












There's so so much to enjoy.

Here are some photos etc from our excursion to Greenwich.

We caught a river cruiser at Westminster Pier.....

Charles Dicken occupied rooms in the narrow dark house. He wrote 2 books here, one of which was - I understand - Great Expectations.

Our first attraction to enjoy on dry land was the Cutty Sark....


















The trust has done a grand job restoring her after the fire, and she is such a visitor friendly vessel now....











The ship was raised 3M above her dry dock. What a space under her......







More later. The iPad is running hot and needs resting to cool!

I was just going to ask you about the Cutty Sark when I saw this post. I saw the pictures of the burned out hull and this restoration is nothing short of amazing. The only good thing about that fire is that the ship had been stripped of her fittings during restoration and were not on board during the fire.

Did they have to add internal bracing to the hull to support it in the dry dock without keel blocks?

Yes, she is supported on a system of 24 tubular lega and with tensioned stainless steel wires inside. The whole installation is non obtrusive.
