The HD iPad version of Gameloft’s Assassin’s Creed: Altaïr’s Chronicles has finally made it onto the App Store. It’s looking a bit gorgeous as you can see from the trailer! iPad exclusive features include completely revamped HD graphics, an iPad-optimised camera, and a customisable interface.

The game is set in Jerusalem, 1191 AD, during the Third Crusade. You control Altaïr, a Master Assassin sent by the Order of the Assassins on a quest to find the “Chaliceâ€, a powerful object that could end the Crusades. It’s up to you to steal the Chalice from the Templars and bring peace to the land. No pressure!

For fans of the console series, Altaïr’s Chronicles fits in just before the start of the console games, acting as a prequel. The gameplay is a potent mix of stealth, chaotic action and puzzle-solving exploration, all taking place in a 3D world set in the historical Middle East.

As part of the gameplay, you must master assassin skills, such as combo attacks that mix sword-fighting finesse and kicks, and also tax your brain with skill-based mini-games, such as pickpocketing.

There’s also a collecting element to add extra spice to the gameplay, involving collecting orbs to upgrade health and weapons.

Click here to download the game from the App Store for $9.99: Assassin's Creed-Altaïr's Chronicles HD for iPad on the iTunes App Store

This game has been out for the iPhone for quite some time now (two years or so), but with the new HD graphics and the bigger screen, it's still quite fun to play. It's not as good as the second Assassins Creed game on the iPhone, but I'm pretty sure that one will come to the iPad someday as well. Until then, Assassins Creed fans could do a lot worse than getting this.
