Whoever it was at Backflip Studios (Paper Toss, Ragdoll Blaster 2, NinJump) who thought it would be a good idea to resurrect Sam Raimi’s cult 1992 horror film Army of Darkness as a side-scrolling castle defense romp should really be getting a massive pay rise right now, as the recently released game has proved to be a huge hit with iOS gamers and critics alike, earning a rock solid five-star rating in the App Store.
In the game, the player takes on the iconic role of boomstick-wielding one-liner-quipping hero Ash Williams as he summons familiar troops, weapons and spells in a recreation of the movie's pivotal castle scene where Ash and his allies are forced to protect the powerful Necronomicon book from within Lord Arthur’s fortress in the face of the rampaging Deadite hordes. Over 150 direct lines of dialogue are featured in the game, voiced by the legendary Bruce Campbell himself, and other characters from the movie are also featured, such as Arthur, Henry, Sheila, the Wiseman and Evil Ash.
