Please note that an issue that prevents communications with iTunes from Apple TV generation 1 is a world wide problem. Basically one cannot access the store for any content. I thought it was a hard ware fault however much to my surprise Mac rumors reported it as a major Apple issue. The Apple forums have pages of posts regarding the issue. I have not at this time seen a response from Apple however once Easter holidays have passed I am sure it will be resolved. I switched to a gen 4 Apple TV which I also own and all works fine. This may correct it self once Apple responds.
