9to5 Mac reports that it seems that Apple has removed the original iPad mini from sale at its website and also from the Apple store. It looks like a fond farewell is in order for the original iPad mini!
The first iPad mini was released in October 2012, proving to be incredibly successful, so much so that Apple followed it up with the iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3. The larger iPad Air and iPad Air 2 were also made very much in the iPad mini’s image.
While Apple often retires its first-generation devices fairly quickly, the first iPad mini remained onsale, with a 16GB entry-level model still available alongside the iPad minis 2 and 3.
It’s price was reduced to $299 in October 2013 and $249 in October 2014, and now it looks like it’s reached the end of the road, as 9to5 Mac notes that price drops for the other models had started to effect sales of the original.
