AppleInsider has word today of a new network of schools due to open in Holland in August, where pupils will be taught almost entirely using educational apps on iPads. The 11 schools in the Dutch town of Breda, which have been referred to as “Steve Jobs schools” will teach children from ages four to 12, and will do away with traditional schooling methods such as formal classes, seating charts, and so on. According to the report, which first appeared in Spiegel, teachers will still be on hand to help the pupils use the iPad apps, but they will be more “learning coaches” than traditional teachers. And with the curriculum being entirely digital, students will be able to do their homework either inside or outside of the classroom.

“The iPad keeps teachers and parents constantly informed about what children are doing, what they have learned, and how they are progressing,” said Marco Evers in Spiegel. “If a math app is neither enjoyable nor successful, the teacher simply orders another one.”

There will also be some non-iPad activities to ensure that the children get a fully-rounded education, including playtime activities such as building, drawing, and physical exercise.
