I have a 64GB iPad. I also have 3 Kindles (1st gen, 2nd gen, DX) and they serve different purposes. For reading sessions and from a battery-life perspective, the Kindle is a hands-down winner. For all other purposes, it can't hold a Kandle to the iPad...

Kindle is not a multipurpose gadget. It's intended for e-reading, so of course it's better than any multifunctional device. iPad provides not bad reading experience, but those who need a device just for the e-reading should definitely choose Kindle.
