AirPlay mirroring? Not!

Hi,
I'm a 70 year old Granny who has better toys than the kids. They all wait their turn to inherit my hand-me-downs, i.e., iPads,iPods, smartphones, speakers, cars, etc.

Currently, I am trying to make my movies (being played on my iPad) seen up on the big screen TV. I keep my movies on a Seagate GoFlex Satallite. The Go Flex talks to my iPad3 wirelessly over the GoFlex network.

I can get my Apple TV to see my iPad but not see the movie itself. AirPlay mirroring says you have to be on the same network to work. I get that, but, I can't get the GoFlex to use my normal network. In other words, I can play games, stream movies - just not my GoFlex/iPad movies. Is there a way to make this happen?

Maybe I'm just getting too old to try playing with all these toys every time some new gadget comes out.
Maybe you youngsters can shed some light on this for me.

The GoFlex creates its own wi-fi network for you iPad to connect to. Since the iPad can only connect to one network at a time it can't see the Apple TV network at the same times as the GoFlex network. It would be like trying to drive two cars at the same time.

To watch your GoFlex movies on the the Apple TV you are going to have to first copy them to the iPad.

I don't own either an Apple TV or a GoFlex, so I more than a bit hazy on how you go about doing that, but I'm pretty sure it's possible.

Good Luck.

I think that would defeat the purpose of having the GoFlex. You can save up to 300 movies and not use any space on your iPad like an external HD. The GoFlex satellite is great when traveling or when someone else wants to watch a different movie. It's like your own family mlultiplex theatre in a tiny box. But when at home, why watch on a small screen when you have a 60" screen sitting there. I've had (2) iPad1 and (1) iPad3 streaming three different movies at the same time 30 feet away. It's great when you have only 16 MB on your iPad.

I just thought, watch on the big screen, not finished, no problem, grab your iPad and GoFlex and continue watching in the car. Oh well, I guess it was a good thought.

Thanks anyway.

I found a possible answer on the Seagate site.

Apparently you can connect the GoFlex to your home network, then have your iPad also join that network, then use this address

http://goflexsatellite-{serial number from botttom of unit}.local
in Safari on the iPad to access the GoFlex on the iPad. Then you find play, and turn on AirPlay for the movie, etc.

I'm afraid I can't describe it better than that, not having the equipment to test. Since the link I found was on the Seagate forum, I'll PM it to you so you can look yourself. Good luck.
