ePub is a great format to use. Get Stanza (free) and use the epubs there.
Say what?!?! If I have to choose between Stanza and upgrading to iOS5, Stanza will win hands down. IMHO, it is the best by far.
Will Stanza support all of my books I have already downloaded?
Sounds like a problem with the Stanza app, not the $800 machine.
Yes, works fine. That is how I usually get stuff into Stanza.
Amazon bought Stanza a while back, so some people have been guessing that Amazon might let Stanza die and just keep up its Kindle app.
No reason not to have the Kindle reader, iBooks, Stanza, and the Bluefire Reader.
My recommendation: install Stanza on the iPad (IMO a better reader than iBooks) and Calibre on your PC. Calibre can convert anything to the epub...
I have a lot of reading apps like Kindle, Nook, Kobo, iBooks, GoodReader, Stanza... to name just a few!

Moderator edit: Link supplied. Thanks for the information, HVGeezer....

Most people use Calibre, or that's the impression I get. I use Stanza, but that's on a Mac.
I could have sworn iBooks would open from Safari... Pretty sure Atomic allows you to "open in..."
Install Stanza and it will access the Gutenberg site and download them easily. Very nicely done.
Also Stanza supports djvu, ibook does not. Another fine app for reading pdf (and other) files is GoodReader.
No, it doesn't support any format. From their website
Stanza iPhone / iPod Touch supports eReader with or without DRM and ePub without DRM.
I don't know exactly how to do it, but I believe the Stanza app will supposedly read any format.
