The System Status app helps me on my iPad 1 by allowing me to easily free up memory, which as others have noted is the issue you are having.
Look for a triangular button in the lower right corner after you start a song. Click it to play to your other device.
I've had good luck using the System Status app from the App Store. It always me to periodically clear memory which helps with the crashing issue....
