All Ipads work with wep, but only 64 bit. They do not work with 128 bit wep. They do work with wpa2.

Chances are those numbers he had you generate are what he used for the WEP code but they may have been the password instead.
i do have my ipad 64GB 3G in a Wlan with 128 bit WEP Encryption. I am using static IPs. Never tried DHCP though.

Some older routers did 128 bit WEP incorrectly. They only worked with devices of the same manufacturer. Linksys was famous for that.

You need the security code that you also had to enter to access Wi-Fi with your iPad.
My upgrade went very smoothly and my wifi is much improved.
