Incredible when you think a gallon of gas cost 50c in 1966 when I came to Canada, a pack of cigarettes cost the same. To compare today's cost you have to compare unit costs with your income. Example: As a mechanic I was making an average of $250/week so I could buy 500 gallons of gas with one weeks pay, so today with gas at say $ 1.28/ltr or $ 5.70/gal I would have to earn $5.70 x 500 = $ 2,848/week for gas to be the 'same' price today.Quote:

That's to complex for my time worn brain. $70 to drive for a week + $35 a week for parking + wear and tear + insurance = I'd sell my car if public transportation in Ottawa wasn't so retched.Quote:

How about $9.40 a gallon in good 'ol Blighty.
Diesel costs more too. It costs me a lot due to my 4x4 but I can't do without it especially when the snow is here. Our field is too muddy due to all the rain we had last week.

I can believe that the 4x4 is indispensable. Is it more economical in mpg then at petrol driven vehicle? Our diesel Ford Fiesta is a lot more economical than the petrol versions and this compensates for the additional cost per gallon of diesel.Quote:

I am preparing papers for the annual general meeting of the Lincolnshire Family History Society London Branch on 16th inst.
We will be visiting the Guildhall library in March. This will be the latest in a series of annual field trips which I organise. They are all great fun and help bring our hobby to life, as well as support various archives and museums.

Like Canada, I'll bet most of that is taxes! Just wait until I finish designing my perpetual motion engine, no fuel needed. 8)Quote:
