    That's exactly right. The teeth are set only one way so they won't damage the surface as plugs etc are being cut flush.

    (This post moved after being posted in the wrong thread by mistake, sorry)

    The object sits in one of the holes in the bench, metal end upward & sticking out of the top. Meant to help hold it firm to use as a rasp for a hand held item needing to be smoothed?

    A mouthful!

    Where in the UK is it?
