Radio Set SCR-300-A BC-1000-A or, the "300" for short. The radio was designed and assembled by Galvin Manufacturing, later renamed "Motorola."

Military issue for combat troops in the field. Manufactured in 1943 it was built to be portable but is base station capable. It weights from 32 - 38 lbs., (approx) depending on the type of battery
(dry) used. It runs on low power and has 18 tubes, with quartz crystals. It transmits and receives on the FM band.

    Correct,Admiral.
This was the radio that Motorola called the Walkie-Talkie.What most people called the Walkie -Talkie was officially called the Handie-Talkie.
This radio is unusual in that it is painted in a gray colour. Most of these radios were painted a green colour.

Seriously sci, is all of this stuff in your basement?
You could equip a small fighting force.

My thoughts too, Admiral. Methinks he runs a stand at the Sci-fi conventions.

It's not all in the basement, but it is in the house.
The challenge is open if anyone wishes to take it up.

    OK, here is one.

What is this a part of?

What was the complete machine used for?

As a bonus, please advise whether any of these machines ate still in use, and if so to what purpose?

Is it an iron lung? (A negative pressure ventilator). It enabled a person to breathe when normal muscle control was or they had difficulty breathing on their own.

It's use pretty much end in the late 50s - early 60's when it was replaced by the "positive pressure ventilation & intubation."

Would this picture have been taken while looking through a rear porthole, towards the cockpit,of the Fairchild C119 Flying Boxcar?
Two are still flying cargo in Alaska.Others are preserved at various museums and other locations around the world.
