Prefer that you write it in German so you can fully commit to it emotionally.

The best German to English translation I've ever read was The Swarm - science fiction novel, (German: Der Schwarm) 2004, by Frank Schätzing. It was first published in Germany and Austria.
The English translation was published in 2006.

We should have more books with two languages where both are from the author and not an interpreter. This allows for the intent to be translated faithfully. Though if you really write one in German I would like to try reading it - so make it a Children's book

    I'll consider your suggestion. :-)
You're right, I've read a few books in German and English as well. There are a few differences.
It's the same when you see an interview in TV. Sometimes the interpreters use words that weren't said. They even don't get the right meaning every now and then.

Doing simultaneous translation is the hardest translating possible.

My husband has been trying to learn Chinese for years. I try to translate for him from movies or when people talk -- you can't keep up word for word, often there's no exact translation across languages, and you have to be expert in both languages to get the meaning as well as the nuance, on top of the expression that might be just right, and you have to do it immediately. With written translation, you've got the luxury of time and much more thought.

At least I have a lot of time now to finish reading my book.
I'm going back several pages on this thread to try and find out what ails you Johanna.

So sorry you're sick. Wishing you a rapid recovery.
