We get a monthly delivery of locally grown veggies through a subscription -- you get a mixed box of what a co-op of growers raises, but you don't know what you'll get for sure, because it depends on their yield. We usually eat those and supplement with stuff from the supermarket. Sometimes, smoothie error rate is up'd by what is delivered in the co-op box, lol.
Interesting about your co-op box. We (my family) have tried that with mixed results. We found it costly compared to going to the grocery store. But given the pressures our local growers are under we plan to give it a try again this year.

I think it also depends on whether you buy organic at a yuppie store. My husband doesn't like pesticides if he can avoid them, and part of the co-op pitch is growing organic.

I'm not the shopper or cook in the family, so I leave it up to him. If things were left to me, there'd be candy corn for veggies.

We have farmers' box schemes here too. It's nice to wonder what is going to be delivered next! We don't subscribe to the schemes as we get a good store discount, but the food range is limited.

"Peanut Butter" Caramel Corn. Now you're legal.

Yes we commented about the variety and "surprise" element when we tried it.

And as Kay notes, there was the appeal of organically grown produce too.

I do worry about the future of food production.
Being a local grower is a hard life. I don't see a line up of next generation farmers waiting to step into the family business.

MBA, it sounds like you just graduated with a masters in business administration.

I know...it does, doesn't it? I was getting tired of writing out the full name!

Maybe someday I will get my MBA-that's been in the back of my mind for a while, but not now!
