I thought spider bites were painless; the only problem being a marginal risk of death?

I'm assuming the big brown spider that I killed on top of my hand is what left the stinging red bite mark. If I'm not around tomorrow then you know I died from it

Well, I'm not sure how big a brown recluse is, but I would be taking that one to a hospital. And just for a change I AM being serious. The bite of the brown recluse is potentially fatal. Originally Posted by fleur07

Depends on the spider. In relatively rare instances, some spider bites can leave holes in flesh, requiring surgical draining. I was once regaled with a particularly gruesome account by a friend who was bitten. Originally Posted by KevinJS

Take the spider too if you can ,makes identification much quicker.
