Well, so far I'm sharing the load with another HLTA so I'm teaching year 11's and year 9's but I expect I'll be teaching year 10's later on. It depends on their behaviour. SEN students can be difficult to control in a large classroom so I take out up to 12 students and teach them for the year. Sometimes students go back to the main classroom if their ability or behaviour improves. I try not to think of myself as the dumping ground teacher but it can feel like it. If I have real trouble with a student though, I can refuse to have them. After all, the teacher is the boss and I am after all only a higher level teaching assistant but I do get treated like a teacher. I love my job most of the time!
I've done this for 14 years! Gulp! Time flies!
