"Maxey Castle was built around the 1370s by William Thorpe near the village of Maxey. The castle had a double-moat, possibly designed as a flood defense, with a central keep within a bailey wall with corner towers. Today only the partial remains of the moats survive of the castle, which have scheduled monument status."

I guess I would have been someone in 1370. I always thought I was a viking, but efforts to prove have been in vain.
Thx for sharing this excellent website and a glimpse into your ancestral home, Bob.

I have emailed myself a link to the website. The material appears to be well researched, with the sources used quoted.

Xmas pud is also very tasty with brandy butter melting over the top of the serving.

Do you drench the pud with brandy and set it alight just before carrying it into the dining room? Our family used to follow that tradition.

Eels are great, trust me. Hard to find locally, which is rather odd because they are so good.
Good post about dinner, Bob. I had a chortle and choke on me T!

So, there's a bit of cockney in your genes! Jellied eel and mash served in that green sauce is a cockney favourite.

Lol, fortunately for me, out of sight out of mind. They are in the linen closet. He's focused on the terrace window right now. Wants to go out three but its too early and too cold right now. No rest for Mommies lol.

I do not know if it is true. When castles came up in the thread, I simply Googled "Maxey Castle." Lordy, there actually is one. I was amazed.

There is also a Brown Castle: Hotel Splendido and Splendido Mare, a luxury hotel and spa in Portofino and Cinque Terre, Italy - Brown Castle

But mine is bigger, so there.

I wish I was fluent in Cockney. I stumble through English; that is to say, I speak American. I also speak Morse Code, iffin that counts. Perhaps I'll learn Esperanto.
