I crossed the North Saskatchewan river at Drayton Valley on Thursday evening. By Friday morning, the river was at least 6 feet higher. The communities along the N Sask tend to be much higher than the river, so there is little risk of flooding.
In the south, however, it's a different story. Much of Calgary is evacuated. Medicine Hat was on evacuation alert on Friday morning. High River is under water. Banff and Canmore are isolated after the TransCanada Highway was severed by a mudslide. It will take around a week to dry out transformers to the point where power can be restored. The Edmonton Police Service has dispatched off duty officers to assist the Calgary Police Service, and as has already been stated, there have been fatalities.
The weather pattern seems to be breaking up now, so hopefully, we are over the worst.
