My niece is a volcanologist. She's presently stationed in the UK - teaching at Imperial College London.

Now, if I recall correctly, wasn't Mt St Helen's the biggie that went off a while back?

Yes. The big one, at least in modern times, wasOriginally Posted by Gabriel1
in May, 1980.
We lived in southern Alberta then. We were on a camping trip in Waterton Lakes International Peace Park. It's located in the most southwestern part of Alberta, on the Montana border, opposite Glacier National Park.
The second morning after the eruption, we woke up to a coating of volcanic ash on everything. It was like a layer of fine dust.
The volcano most recently erupted in July 2008 but it was minor compared to the 1980 blast.

I was several hundred miles away from Mount St. Helens, anchored in Maple Bay, British Columbia and heard the explosion on that day in 1980.Originally Posted by AdmiralAdama
