Paramedics just released a statement.
"The unsuspecting 48 year old lone male occupant of the car was getting off the highway when his car was swallowed by the sink hole. He was able to self-extricate himself. He was assessed and treated by paramedics at the scene for a minor leg injury. He declined transportation to hospital."

In some parts of SE London sink holes appear from time to time. The subsoil is sand and chalk. In ancient times the chalk was mined and no one knows where the workings extend to.

Has this anything to do with Mars exploration?
Actually it's part of a mosaic panel in the floor of the National Gallery in London. The panels are post WW2 and placed by a European gent. Sorry, I don't remember whom.

It will take several days to excavate and repair the sinkhole site in my city.
The traffic congestion is outrageous. The one way eastbound portion of the highway is CLOSED and westbound lanes are reduced to accommodate heavy equipment and public transportation.
