I remember as a kid being mesmerized by their earlier creations like "Fireball XL5", "Thunderbirds" & "Stingray". I was also a big fan of "UFO" even though it was a flop
in ratings and lasted only one season.
Lew Grade deserves credit too. Without his penchant for risk taking and the resources of his ITC and AP Films subsidiary, science fiction / fantasy programming would have died an early death on TV.
Last decade's "Battlestar Galactica" reboot was a remarkable comeback for science fiction TV, in large part because it was also a dramatic series. Had it been distributed on network TV instead of cable, it would have found a bigger audience. Sadly the money ran out before the creative genius.
"BSG" also elevated the standing of the musical score in television production. The orchestral maneuvers of composer Bear McCreary made every episode soar.

We didn't have that on TV here, so no wonder it's unfamiliar. (And thanks for explaining about Cylon. :-))
Instead we have Star Trek, in the various series, Dr. Who and used to have The X Files. Oh, and Quatermass!
Dr Who used to be great years ago, all shaky cardboard effects, filmed in the alien quarry at the weekends when it was empty, & of course, the police box time machine. It used to scare me silly, like Quatermass. But Dr Who has gone a bit odd now. Too complex to follow, and just daft. In my opinion of course.
Edit: forgot that series with the huge ball chasing people in that village....can't remember the name.

I've enjoyed Dr. Who off and on through the years.
A 1969 film "Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun"
also UK produced is a favourite of mine. It's old school (Gerry & Sylvia Anderson) and uses miniatures for SFX.
Most of the filming was done at Pinewood. In Europe the film was released as "Doppelgänger."
It's a fun ride.

Richard, you fiend!
That link is fascinating. Didn't even realise they produced a newsletter, and such an attractively designed one.
Will be forwarded pronto to the archive guru in this particular family. :-)

Just heard Ernest Borgnine passed away.
He was 95.
I remember him from the TV show "McHale's Navy" and the movie "The Dirty Dozen."

Yes, he was a great actor. I remember him in "The Flight of The Phoenix" and The Poseidon Adventure".
I think he was also in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest".
