My iPad is only a couple of weeks old. I've loaded lots of apps, but do not feel like I'm getting anywhere near the ten hour battery life one is led to believe. I've tried to read up on how to minimize battery drain, but would be open to hearing ideas regarding key ways to save battery power. I'm also going to have the battery checked at the local Apple store. Thoughts?

One thing you might want to check is your screen brightness. I usually keep mine at about the halfway point.
