It looks fairly typical of the terminals used by businesses prior to the 80's (and a bit beyond). The unit would have been fairly light on processor power and memory, with file storage and most program execution being done on a central unit.

Other than that, I can't tell. I could not find anything under the GENTEC name, and GT-4000 is a ridiculously common model name (or so Google seems to suggest).

Well thanks, so my terminal must be a 70s terminal? Sweet!

Well, probably. The U.S. Coast Guard was using a CTOS system up through the early 90's. It was a modular system about a half step above dumb terminal. The units were usually configured to run on a central CPU rather than independently. Lots of other businesses hung on to this model far past the personal computer revolution.

Maybe I can try and find another one like this? I'm sure it's a personal computer, but it doesn't have a disk drive connector :/

Yep. Only the keyboard, line (for the network), and printer. This is why I'm pretty sure it's a dumb terminal.

Given the RS-232 connector, it might have even worked through a modem.

Could be a rare PC or a rare government computer

Update on it: the CRT actually works but you can barely see the screen, and btw does anyone have an rs232 connector to Ethernet converter I can have? Because I want to test this terminal and its functions
