Hi,

I'm a new subscriber and a relative novice to iPad technology and Apple technology in general, although I do have a load of experience with Windows and older experience with Unix and Linux. And IBM mainframe operating systems dating back to System/360 ...

My wife owns an iPad 1 and I have a gift certificate for $399 for the Apple store that's supposed to be for an iPad - part of a promotion for signing up for online training. So we'll probably get her a new iPad 2/3 or iPad Mini and either I'll inherit the old iPad 1 or pass it along to our son.

I have lots of questions about iPad/iPhone/iTunes technology and how this is supposed to work, but I'll probably save that for a more specific topic in the forum rather than this post.

But I do have one over-arching question. Is it just me, or is Apple's iTunes/IOS technology really difficult to understand? I mean Apple is supposed to be the intuitive answer to Microsoft - and IBM and everyone else that ever produced an operating system, yes? What's difficult is figuring out this opaque scheme of how Apple ties content on an device like an iPad through iTunes on a PC to the Apple store and why I can't transfer apps on my wife's iPad to iTunes. But that's for a different topic, I think.

Hi there Casey and welcome.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. If you can't find the answer you need and you post a question then give as much info as you can to help members help you i.e. iPad 1 or 2, iOS version and name of app if the problem is with a specific app........and please don't forget to read the rules Forum rules - everybody please read!!

Don't be too concerned about intuitivity (is that a word?&#128552 compared to Microsoft. I downloaded the new Wndows 8 upgrade 2 days ago onto my PC and am still trying to make sense on how to smoothly work it. It will take time before I completely come to terms with it. All new devices have a learning curve, if never used before. But I think, from what I have seen so far, the iPad is much more intuitive to use first up than the latest Microsoft offering.
