Thank you for responding to my post, and 'yes' I totally agree with you that it is a wonderful Mother's Day gift. Extremely generous.
But, thing is my kids all over.

I realised after I had sent my post it had NO info at all about my email. So, here goes, I'm running Google but thru Microsoft Exchange as this seemed to have less issues with initial setup. Every part of the email is there other than the compose button. On the home computer,
Which is not an apple product Gmail changed their layout so initially getting the compose side up, had to press Gmail heading and
Compose would appear. I tried this, to no avail. I've tried to reset mail, and different other suggestions that others had said helped them, only to find that what I was looking for wasn't what they were talking about. Baby steps! I hope this is what you needed. Ans sorry again for not being clearer at the start. Hope your all having a great day!!

I am using an empty inbox to demonstrate but it should serve its purpose. Tap the photo below for what you need to do to compose or reply to an email. Had I had an open email when I created the screen grab the reply icon would not be greyed out.
