    Travelling in Europe

    Hello,

I've joined this forum because I am considering purchasing an iPad, probably iPad 2, because I will be travelling in Europe shortly and I'm not very tech savvy. I have a couple of questions. Most accommodation I'll be staying at has free Wi-Fi and I would like to avoid international roaming costs. What do I need to be aware of then?

Secondly, when I go to Norway, I will be staying with family friends in the north so will need some other access to internet. Would this be best achieved by purchasing a local SIM card?

    Thanks.

If you get a 3G model make sure to turn off Data Roaming if you keep your own SIM in there.

I'm not familiar with Norway, but if it's anything like northern Canada, cell service could be hit and miss to the point where a local SIM could be useless. Best bet is to hope your friends have wifi that you could hook into while you are staying with them.

I'm told that Europe is very well served with wifi, so you could be lucky even in the far north.
