Is there a way?

I am guessing, but have you set up the iPad as a hotspot and then see if your desktop can connect via wifi?

Is your iPad the new iPad with 4g as these are the only iPads that have the personal hotspot feature? If it is most carriers will need to be notified to have this feature activated also.
