Been reading the forum for a while and decided to post my question. I am contemplating purchasing an iPad or Android tablet but have a specific primary purpose - to get away from paper. All the other things are bonuses.

I am really looking to use it for taking lecture and meeting notes.

I have been using things like Livescribe and many other similar devices and they work for a while and as soon as the warranty period ends they die. If I add all the money spent on these things I could have bought a tablet a while ago so I decided on something more durable and hopefully this forum will help my make that decision. If the iPad wins I see the forum as a wealth of information to just make it better. Great forum BTW.

Hello Sargon, welcome to the forum. You've already been officially greeted one of our super moderators leelai, I encourage you to read her links, if you haven't already. I have the new iPad (third generation) and on certain apps that require a keyboard, there is a microphone feature. This new iPad has voice recognition capability. I have not experimented using it in a lecture/class setting but it has potential. I used my iPad1 to record lectures but I had to get an external microphone, and sit up close to the lecturer.

    Welcome to the forum!
