Hello there, welcome to yet another newbie intro thread.
I am not new to Apple just to iPads as I own 2 different generations of iPods. The iPad always seemed like a giant iPod to me, didn't stop me wanting one, but still looked like one to me anyhow.
I recently was able to afford to consider actually buying one for myself, originally looking at the discounted iPad 2 but finally decided if I was going to buy one I might as well spend the extra and get the latest model instead.
My iPad actually only arrived very late afternoon today, it was actually getting so late here I was expecting to have my delivery rescheduled until tomorrow, so was surprised when it turned up just before 5pm tonight.
As I already had an Apple ID and such and the fact the iPad arrived with over 90% battery charge I zipped through the whole set-up quite quickly.
I like my gadgets, not as much as my techno-gadget mad brother, who I totally blame for my iPod and iPad fascination. It was my brother getting an iPod for his birthday that caught my interest originally. I got my iPod upgraded to the first one with the cameras and built in microphone the following year which tends to be my constant companion. I use it to remind me to check I've taken my daily medications I need to take, when bills are due and similar. Very helpful for me.
Before my brother got his iPod I thought that it was just a fancy looking MP3 player. I didn't know it had games/apps and similar that you could use on it. Same for the email/web browsing. Once I learnt that I became much more interested. It was just natural that I would gravitate towards the iPad given it was a larger version of the iPod which I could more easily do this with. I didn't like the look of the first generation, it looked a little heavy to use for any real period of time. I got interested more when the second generation was released, it seemed more to my taste.
And the rest is history.
I did make a point to get the black model as I don't exactly trust my brother not to arrive with his gen 2 iPad and leave with my gen 3 one in it's place.
Anyway, I'll stop here for now before I become completely sidetracked.
