Hi all,

just joined up on this site, mostly an android user, but plan to get an Ipad 2 for the other half (and so I can finally have a tinker with one ). Here in the UK the 16gb Ipad 2 is approx £299 new

I've tried searching for the answer, come across this forum, but will ask here while I'm trying to find out.

As of right now, are all the current new stock Ipad 2s shipping with IOS 5.0.1 and under? In other words.........have they started shipping with the latest firmware out of the box that makes then un jailbreakable for now?

they will most likely ship with 5.1. which is unjailbreakable for the A5/A5X devices. although. it depends where you buy it. i bought an i device thru best buy in nov 2011. the current ios was 5.0.1. and it came with 4.3.5. so it all depends

If you want an iPad2 with the older firmware, you have two things to do: (1) Go now to a store, because the longer you wait, the higher the odds are that the 5.0.1 iPads will be gone, and (2) go to a large store with a lot of stock or a small store without much traffic - but not an Apple store. I should imagine that the Apple store probably has a high turnover rate, so I'd say all their iPad2s are relatively new and updated now.

IOW, it's a crap shoot that has increasingly smaller odds and you'll have to take a gamble on the iOS. Good luck!

Shame that there is a likely chance they'll be on 5.1 then but its good to know I'd kinda hoped that they may've stopped production or have no reported models with that version on.......guess I better ride it out for the new JB to turn up, or try to ensure the model I get either 2nd hand or from a seller that will ensure it is JB'able. The tinkering is most of the fun for me, though wouldn't affect the other half, so would be too much of a tease for me having one sat there that I can't at least have a try to JB
