Have just recently updated my os on my ipad before i upgraded to 5 now 5.1 but still the mic is not working on video recording or skype. Does anyone knows what to do? Im just a newbie in the forum and glad to hear suggestion from anyone. Thanks..

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Which iPad do you have? And how long hasn't it been working? Have you tried closing the app completely and then relaunching. From the home screen do the four finger swipe up or double press the home button to reveal your multi task bar. These are all the apps that you have opened at one time. Long press the app until it jiggles and a red minus sign will appear above it. Press the minus sign, this will close the app, not delete it, now press the home button to return to your screen. It's also a good idea to close all these apps, as it helps the iPad run smoothly. Check it now and if it's still not working try a reset of your iPad, this step is just like rebooting a computer and nothing will change on your iPad so don't worry.

Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start.

Might be a good idea to also check to make sure your microphone isn't blocked by anything, it's the tiny slot in the middle of your iPad on the top edge. Do NOT go poking anything into it, you must be very careful here.

I already tried reseting, closing applications and restoring but still the same. Mic is only working if i plugged the headset with mic. I wanted to send it to an apple shop here in saudi arabia but its too far from my location. Do you think theres a problem with my ipad 2?

Has your mic ever worked? You say you have used a headset, did it stop working after using this? Is it the mic or the sound not working here? I know that members have had trouble with sound after using headphones as they have just pulled out the headphone jack before first stopping the sound on the app they are using. I wonder if the same thing is not happening here.
Could you plug in the headset again but make sure you stop your app before disconnecting the headset. Something to try here at least and let us know.
I hope someone else may chime in here who knows more here.

Yap my mic was working before, after updating it just stop working on video or skype. Now i tried turning off any music, skype and video recording. I tried recording a video using the headset and its clear, then i tried recording a video without headset, now i hear my voice while recording but not clear unlike with headset.

I don't know what to do with it.. It doesn't have any settings for mic so that i can adjust.

The sound level on some apps is not very good at all, but it's good you can at least hear it now. No the mic has no settings. Have you checked the actual mic, it's at the top of the iPad in the middle, that tiny slot, have a good look to make sure nothing has lodged here. Also when recording try to direction your voice there also. Are you now able to Skype?

Yap i saw the tiny mic on top i tried to clean it with soft brush. But still recording low and i need to shout just to hear me. Maybe ill just send this to apple shop. Thanks for the help

I'm sorry I wasn't able to help you more and the Apple Store really seems to be the way to go here. I was hoping someone else may have known more though. But good luck and let us know what Apple does for you.

Its ok.. Also thanks.. By next month ill try to visit an apple shop here.
