I just bought a Virgin Mobile mifi2200. It's pay as you go, so no contract. Set up was not too difficult and it works well. Of course, not as fast as the home set up, but good enough for checking email on the go.

Haven't tried it in a car yet. But I'll be going out tomorrow and see what happens.

I have the Verizon mifi. I've had it about 2 years. It works great, even on road trips as long as I can get a signal.
Well because of a snowstorm, I didn't go out Saturday. But, we took the mifi2200 for a spin this morning. Never lost the signal while moving down the highway.
LOL-I was just thinking of our conversation on this thread just now. We must have been on the same wave length. Glad to hear that the signal did not fail-I just now loaded the mifi for $20 for my friend. Will give it a go and see how if works for her. I have not tried to use it on more than 1 device, even though it can deliver to up to 5. Not sure how much it would slow down or tax the wifi signal.
Anyways,thanks for the update drb_52!
We too had a snowstorm come through Friday into early Saturday, it was so icy and messy out. Terrible!

I use Fuzion Mobile's mifi for my iPad. Works great. I haven't tried it yet with a road trip, so I guess I'll try that out too. Fuzion Mobile Broadband's rates are VERY competitive and range depending on what you need. Plus, I'm not stuck in a contract. It's pretty convenient. I'd check them out and at least see if they have what would be useful to you. Best of luck!
